Why is Lucy named Lucy?

I learned this while listening to one of Steve's Lectures in the volcanoes and the environment class (the one I TA):

I am sure that you are all familiar with the near perfect humanoid skeletal remains uncovered in Africa. These remains were named Lucy because, when they were uncovered, the radio was playing the Beatles song, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds And, hence, Lucy was reborn.
