October 31, 2005 - Halloween Dance
We went to the Ruffle 'n Beaus' Black Light Halloween Dance last night. They handed out white gloves to everyone and then turned off the overhead lights. Everyone was dressed in dark colors, but of course the white gloves glowed in the black lights. There was also a fog machine, a costume contest, and lots of Halloween goodies. Everyone was in especially high spirits for the holiday and the dancing was very lively and fast. It was a lot of fun!

October 22, 2005 - Water
Against my better judgement (feeling as I do about committees), I agreed to arrange for water service for the upcoming Fiesta. "It's an easy job," they told me. "All you have to do is make one phone call. The company has handled it before. They know what to do." This was six weeks ago. I knew I had my busiest time of the year coming up, but I figured it would all be taken care of before then.
So I call. Water Man tells me he's busy but not to worry. He says we have lots of time and he'll get back to me in a few days. He doesn't call back.
Second call - Don't worry, still lots of time. He doesn't call back.
Third call - Leave message. He doesn't call back.
Send letter - No response.
Fourth call - Leave message.
Err, I hate dealing with flakey people.
By now the committee wants my status report on the water. "Everything is under control." I say, not mentioning that I am having serious nightmares about this. As I see it our "lots of time" is dwindling fast and I am beginning to worry. If this doesn't work out there will be A LOT of people VERY ANGRY at me. I will have no choice but to quit square dancing altogether, change my name, and move to Florida (or somewhere equally distant.)

October 17, 2005 - Take Time
"Take time to dance alone, with one arm flinging free." - from Elizabethtown

October 8, 2005 - It's Mutual
Greeting dancers at the dance last night, Ray said, "I wouldn't be here if it weren't for you . . . and you wouldn't be here if it weren't for me."
Oooo, deep. --- But so true.
Now our caller is a philosopher.

October 3, 2005 - Hats and Things
At the antique and collectibles show we saw an old cowboy hat covered with square dance badges.
Patty said, "Oh look, couldn't Lloyd wear this to square dances?"
I said, "Well, I'm sure it would fit on his head, if that's what you're asking, but no, he would never wear that."
But it was cute. What fun!

October 2, 2005 - Sad
It is really sad when a square breaks down on a right and left grand. . . . TWICE. You can just imagine how well the rest of the tip went.

October 1, 2005 - Country Music Month
This month marks the 41st annual national observance of Country Music Month, which seems fitting following september's National Square Dance Month.
